In the wake of the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh last week, my thoughts have been distracted. I believe, that in the face of violence and hatred, we respond with love, and we embrace each other with love and compassion. In the wake of tragedy, there are no barriers between people of faith, be they Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, etc. This heinous attack was more than an attack on Jews – it was an attack on humanity. Even the American flag at my bank flew at half-mast We do not take the people we love for granted, and tragedy reminds us that there is even unlimited room in our hearts for strangers. Behold how good and pleasant it is for people to dwell together (Ps133).
Still, I take solace in the fact that Ayurveda provides holistic solutions to both physical and emotional trauma. Physically, food is prepared with carefully selected ingredients because first and foremost is the vision of Healing. The physical healing relationship is very direct. For instance, it is well-established in scientific literature that turmeric reduces inflammation and celery juice provides an effective elixir to detoxify the liver. And, there are so many more with protocols to address diabetes, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and more. It is our ever-present goal attain optimum health and internal peace.
Out of the ashes may emerge amazing motivation to rededicate ourselves by studying and embracing our authentic selves, by giving charity, and by engaging one another with loving kindness. Let us never take each other for granted. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for this opportunity to communicate with you. With every smile, every hug, every caring and compassionate word, we are blessed with renewed strength to shine light in the darker places and to emerge even brighter than when we began.
